Platform Operating Mechanism in Unfolded Condition
The operating mechanism is shown by itself in the unfolded condition
in which the front, rear and side lock elements (dark blue) are in
vertical positions. The front and rear lock elements are shown in
positions in which they might be placed after having been moved
rearwardly and forwardly into engagement with the front and rear
bumpers of a mid-size car. They are moved only through relatively
short distances for large size cars. For small cars, they are moved
to near the inner ends of the supporting sleeves (light blue) while
ends of the rack members are moved to near the ends of the platform.
The side lock elements do not engage the sides of a car but provide
protection.
